The Dark Knight Rises A Medical Proffessional's Take On Bane's Mask

A few days ago, Some people were talking about how Bane's neck turned out and the actor who played Bane while he was on set of the new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises. The director Christopher Nolan filmed a fight scene near City Hall where the Carengie Mellon Institute University was at and while in Pittsburgh. The crew who were filming the entire fight scene said that Bane's neck kinda looks straight while he was wearing his mask. Although that's not the case with Tom Hardy who wore the mask over his face when he was challenging Batman to a fight. A medical professional although had to say this about the actor and why he wears a mask over his face.

Colin J. Liotta: WHAT TYPE OF INJURY (OR SURGERY) MIGHT LEAVE THIS KIND OF SCAR?

Dr. Michael Leon: This scar looks like the types of surgical closures that we see after a cervical laminectomy or extensive cervical fusion. Hence, it looks like Bane has had significant trauma to his cervical spine and corrective surgery to stabilize the area, perhaps causing residual chronic pain.

CJL: "LOOKING AT HIS VEST, IS THERE A WAY IT COULD ACT IN UNISON WITH HIS MASK?"

ML: "The vest does have regions that look like pockets or bag-like regions that might have some sort of concentrated gas or other compound. Nevertheless, it could be merely armor such as what Batman wears already."

CJL: "LOOKING AT BANE’S MASK FROM TWO DIFFERENT ANGLES, CAN YOU SPECULATE ON HOW IT MIGHT WORK?"

ML: "Bane’s mask looks like it funnels whatever the compound from the rear of the headpiece; from the central supply at the back of the skull to conduits that rise over the top of his head and feed the intakes over the nose and mouth. The rear portion does look circular and may provide a “dial up” switch so that he can dial up the amount of gas that he needs to inhale during the duration of battle."

CJL: "COULD THE WIRE, CIRCLED BELOW, ACT AS THE CONNECTOR BETWEEN THE VEST AND MASK?"

ML: "This “wire” or tube could be connected to the mask but also looks similar to intrathecal or intraspinal catheters that anesthesiologists and pain medicine specialists use to inject pain alleviating medicines that circulate in the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the spinal cord and brain."

But that's not all! Dr Leon had to say about what kind of powerful drug it could have been and why he's still using it today. It's definitly worth a read?

From that of a medical standpoint. Dr Leon points out that the drug indeed could be strong and is something that deals with steriods and also have been used in treating pain and asthma. The Toxin which is a drug is used for pain relief and to adjust the neck from moving. This meant that for the actor Tom Hardy it was not a problem. But the masked man's injury meant that his neck was able to move properly and a drug called Venom which Nolan planned to use in his final Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises. So this drug works perfectly with what he's trying to plan out and also may have sensational pictures that could may have key elements that could exist from the medicine as planned. It also may lead to why the set photos which were shown with actor Tom Hardy walking while finishing his scene with a spinal cord shown may cause us to believe that it came from an injury while on the set. Still Nolan in an interview said that the spine is supposed to act as something different especailly not by itself but by what it's being caused by! Stay tuned for more news like this!!!!!!!!!!!!
